The aerospace and defence sector directly employs 847,700 people in the EU 
Based on the data collected from 2010 to 2015, the industry has seen a steady increase of employees. In 2010, the ASD sector employed 704,000 people and the numbers have jumped to 847,000 in 2015.
The aerospace and defence sector has an annual turnover of 222 billion euro
Overall, the sector is experiencing continuous growth. In 2015, the usual turnover of 222 billion euro has seen an increase of 11% compared to 2014.
R&D is a big investment area on aerospace and defence expenditures
In 2015, there was a continued stream of investments made into the ASD sector, which amounted 20 billion euro. The majority of these investments (16 billion euro) focussed on the aeronautics industry.
France, Germany, UK and Italy are the biggest exporters of the aerospace parts within EU 
The 4 aforementioned countries, together with Spain, accounted for 86% of European exports in 2014 within the aerospace industry. In general, European export rates of aerospace parts are predicted to grow steadily in the near future (0%-2%).
Global air travel will likely increase in the next decade
Commercial air travel is expected to increase globally (50%-100%) in the next 10-15 years, which will create a demand for additional helicopters (8,000-10,000) by 2020, as well as large civil aircrafts (25,000-30,000) by 2030.
